Day 13 – Epilogue

The team had breakfast together this morning at the Mercure hotel and then said our goodbyes. This is really a great group where everyone gets along and brings different skills to the party. Stephen organizes. JP translates. Joe has the driest sense of humor and the most considerate demeaner. And I guess I’m the storyteller. All-in-all, it works!

JP taught me this saying in italian:

Gli ospiti sono come le pesce, dopo tre giorni puzzano. (Guests are kind like fish, after 3 days they stink.)

Stephen and JP were hiking another 30 miles, so the put on their boots and took off for a 2.5-day excursion to Rocamadour.

JP and Stephen head out for another 3 days.

Joe and I walked to the Figeac train station. He was heading south to Toulouse, while I was heading north to Paris.

It will take me over 7 hours to get to Paris tonight. I have to connect in the town of Brive. Since, I have almost 2 hours there, I decided to walk into town and get some lunch to eat on the train.

Brive from the train station. It looks flat, but it’s not.
The center plaza was very nice with a lot of shops encircling a big cathedral

But the most interesting thing that I saw was a car called a Microlino. It had 2 seats and no discernible headlights. Wild!

Tiny Auto or Big Robotic Lawn Mower?

I arrived in Paris on time. Found my way to Stephen’s apartment, dropped my bag, and invited his daughter to dinner. Laetitia and I had a marvelous dinner with onion soup, steak au poive, and frites. A great way to end my fortnight in France.

Tomorrow, I leave for Charles De Gaule airport in the morning and fly back home to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Au revoir
